Intimate Patterns

It was on fire, and it was hot,
it burned right through my skin
and I said, "Hey,
why dont we put our heads together
and make a pattern?"
It was on fire and it was not
and I said, "Hey,
Let's not make more of this
than our pattern can hold."
I said,
"Lets not mistake gold for tin,
or tin for gold."

It was cloudy but it did not rain,
the sky filled up my eyes
and I said, "Hey,
why don't we put our heads together
and enjoy the pattern?"
I said,
"Why don't we just use what we've got,
it is on fire, and it is not."
It was coudy and it rained,
the sky filled up my eyes,
it was on fire and it was hot,
and it was not.
